Science at Hylands

At Hylands Primary School we believe in fostering pupil’s curiosity and passion for Science through an exciting, engaging and challenging curriculum. We aim to prepare our pupils for life in an increasingly scientific and technological world. Pupils are given opportunities to explore, discuss and question to deepen their understanding of the world around them.

Science is good when…

Inspiring: 

 Pupils are inspired and encouraged to explore their natural curiosity and inquisitiveness through carefully planned investigations.

Knowledge rich:

 Pupils use knowledge rich scientific vocabulary to enhance understanding of new topics and the world around them.

Adventurous: 

Pupils are allowed to be adventurous and good use is made of environmental learning areas and the locality.

( including Forest school and science capital)

 

Oracy focused: 

Scientific oracy is developed through immersive experiences. A range of 

thought -provoking activities and investigations are used to stimulate discussion and pupils are continually encouraged to question their own predictions and results of experiments.

Exciting: 

Pupils learn through fun, exciting and engaging lessons and experiences beyond the classroom such as science-based school trips, visitors and science week.

Collaborative: 

Pupils work collaboratively in different ways, as a class, small groups or in pairs. Teamwork is key. We promote the holistic development of the whole school, fostering resilient, confident, independent and creative learners.

Reflective: 

Pupils have time to reflect and appraise their understanding and look for opportunities to improve their learning. They will be self-critical and share with each other ideas to help move their learning forward.
